For a place tucked away in this tiny village of Reciu, it honestly feels like stumbling onto a hidden gem that someone forgot to put on the tourist maps. I mean, Gîrbova isn’t exactly where you’d expect to find a place with a 9.2 rating, but here we are.

The thing is, this isn’t your typical roadside pensiune – there’s something genuinely thoughtful about how they’ve set everything up. The rooms are clean in that way that tells you the owners actually care, not just going through the motions. When I stayed there last spring, the woman who checked us in (I think she’s one of the owners) knew exactly which room would be quietest since we mentioned we were light sleepers. Those little touches matter, especially when you’re trying to unwind after driving through the Alba County countryside all day. The parking situation is straightforward too – none of that stress about finding a spot or wondering if your car will be okay overnight.

What really gets me is the location itself. Reciu is one of those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it villages, but it’s actually perfectly positioned if you’re exploring this part of Transylvania. You’re close enough to Alba Iulia that you can easily do a day trip to see the fortress (about 20 minutes by car), but far enough out that you get that authentic rural Romanian experience. The mornings are incredibly quiet – just birds and maybe a neighbor’s rooster – which honestly was exactly what I needed after months of city noise. Plus, the Carpathian foothills start getting really beautiful around here, so if you’re into hiking or just want some decent photos, you’re in good territory. The hosts seem to know the area well and can point you toward trails that aren’t completely overrun with tourists. Actually, now that I think about it, the breakfast they served used local ingredients – you could taste the difference in the eggs and cheese, that fresh quality you just can’t get in supermarkets.

Sure, it’s not fancy in a luxury hotel sense, but the 3-star rating feels right – comfortable, reliable, with that personal attention that makes you feel like you’re staying with people who genuinely want you to have a good time. If you’re the type who needs 24-hour room service and a spa, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want a solid base for exploring Alba County without the tourist crowds, and you appreciate when small details are done well, Casa Buna delivers on exactly what it promises.
