You know what’s funny about Romanian mountain towns? They tend to hide their best spots in plain sight, and Pensiunea Berzasca is exactly that kind of place. I stumbled across this gem during a driving trip through the Carpathians – honestly, I was just looking for somewhere decent to crash for the night along Soseaua Principala, but this place turned out to be one of those happy accidents that makes you rethink your entire itinerary.
The thing about Berzasca is that it’s not trying to be anything other than what it is: a proper Romanian guesthouse that actually gets the details right. The owner clearly knows their stuff – you can tell from the moment you walk in that someone’s been paying attention to what travelers actually need. The rooms are spotless (I mean genuinely clean, not just made-bed clean), and they’ve got that perfect balance of traditional Romanian charm without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. The beds are properly comfortable too, which honestly surprised me given how many mountain places seem to think atmosphere makes up for terrible mattresses. What really won me over was the breakfast situation – they serve this incredible spread of local specialties that changes based on what’s seasonal, and the coffee is actually good, not just tolerable. You’ll also notice they’ve thought about practical stuff like having enough outlets for your devices and decent water pressure in the showers – small things that make a huge difference when you’re road-tripping.
The location is pretty brilliant if you’re exploring this part of Romania. Berzasca sits right in the heart of the Danube Gorge area, so you’re perfectly positioned for day trips to the Iron Gates or hiking in the Mehedinti Mountains. The staff – and I suspect this includes the owner – actually know the region well enough to give you proper directions and suggestions that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible viewpoint that’s maybe a twenty-minute drive away that I never would have found otherwise. The town itself is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well (no late-night traffic or bar noise), but it’s not so isolated that you feel cut off from civilization. There’s decent parking right at the property, which is a blessing if you’re traveling by car through these mountain roads. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly if I was planning to spend more time exploring the Danube region – it’s one of those places that makes you want to come back and really get to know the area properly.

O locaţie superbã, aflatã în localitatea Brezeasca, oferã condiţii excepţionale de cazare. Am rezervat o noapte: 24/25.01.2025, prin Booking.com Condiţii excelente! Camera mare, foarte bine utilatã, apã caldã, climã, televizor cu o gamã largã de canale inclusiv Netflix, un balcon generos cu vedere spre Dunãre, de unde ai o largã privelişte pentru cel puţin 10 km în ambele sensuri ale apei şi mult cer liber. Bineînţeles, existã piscinã (pentru vizita pe care o vom face în aceastã varã), şi posibilitãţi de plimbare cu barca pe râu (într-un viitor nu prea îndepãrtat). Am avut posibilitatea sã servim cina. Spectacular! Gazda – Alex – ne-a rãsfãţat cu un Prosseco original (din partea casei), apoi, am ales o ceafã la grãtar şi pireu de cartofi cu trufe, precum şi o porţie de pulpe dezosate de pui, cu mazãre cu seminţe, precum şi o salatã cu roşioare şi avocado. Înainte de toate acestea, am primit din partea casei, mici bruschete acoperite cu ultei de mãsline, slãninuţã de casã, şuncã de casã, brânzã Chammembert şi trufe. Micul dejun din 25.01.2025 inclus în preţ, a constat dintr-o omletã/ou ochi, însoţitã de 7 (şapte feluri) de brânzã, 5 (cinci) feluri de salam şi 2 (douã) feluri de cârnaţi, împreunã cu o cafea (din partea casei). Toate extrem de proaspete şi servite cu mult drag de gazda noastrã Alex. De remarcat faptul cã in 24.01. în timp ce îndreptam din Timişoara spre Gurile Dunãrii, respectiv localitatea Socol, Domnul Alex ne-a contactat telefonic, pentru a reverifica ora la care vom ajunge la cazare. Totul a fost extraordinar şi cu siguranţã vom reveni cu plãcere!
Totul mi-a placut, la superlativ. Locatia este superba, cu vedere larga spre Dunare. Drumul de acces foarte bun, din soseaua ce serpuieste paralel cu fluviul. Desi afara iarna si frig, am tot iesit pe terasa, din camera, sa fac fotografii si sa ma bucur de peisaj. Cladirea este noua, atent si cu gust mobilata, functionala, confortabila, totul la cote inalte. Personalul zambitor, amabil, politicos si atent la orice solicitare, mi-a lasat o impresie deosebita, de gazda primitoare, care iti deschide usa casei si umple masa cu bunatati. Micul dejun a fost gustos si mult, cafeaua de nota 10. Desi as fi vrut sa mananc tot, mi-a fost imposibil. Gazda s-a oferit sa imi pregateasca sandwich, pentru drum. In ziua sosirii am servit masa. Tot ce am mancat la Pensiunea Berzasca a fost un deliciu, o mare surpriza si bucurie, asa cum iti ofera meniurile marilor chefi bucatari. Multumesc pentru primire si ospitalitate. Cu siguanta voi reveni, pentru mai multe zile. Daca va fi vara, ne vom bucura si de piscina si activitatile in aer liber, pregatite de gazda. Recomand, cu drag!
Chiar daca inca mai aveau de lucru pe ici pe colo, personalul a fost deosebit de amabil, locatia fantasticã si comportamentul lor ireprosabil
