The beds are actually decent quality, and the shower pressure is surprisingly good. What really sold me was the breakfast setup – it’s not some sad continental spread, but proper local stuff. Fresh eggs, decent coffee, and they’ll point you toward the best hiking trails if you ask nicely.

Here’s the thing about Băile Herculane that most people don’t realize until they’re here – it’s not just about the thermal baths. Sure, those are great (especially in the evening when the crowds thin out), but this whole valley has incredible hiking, and the pension owners know all the good spots. They told me about this trail that leads up to some Roman ruins that most tourists never find. The whole area gets pretty busy with Romanian families during summer weekends, but mid-week it’s wonderfully peaceful. And honestly, for an 8.4 rating, Pensiune Safrane delivers exactly what you’d hope for – solid comfort, friendly service, and that authentic local feel that chain hotels just can’t fake. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because it just feels right.
