Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Panorama Apartmany – the name’s pretty straightforward, right? But you know what hit me immediately? The view. I mean, you’re literally sitting at Štrbské Pleso, which is this gorgeous glacial lake that most people only see in postcards, and these apartments are positioned so you actually get to wake up to it every morning. The building itself is solid, nothing fancy from the outside, but that’s kind of the point – it’s all about what you see when you look out those windows.
The apartments themselves are well, actually apartment-sized, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many “apartmany” in Slovakia are basically hotel rooms with a tiny kitchenette shoved in the corner. These ones feel lived-in (in a good way) – like someone’s grandmother decorated them with care rather than some corporate designer picking everything from a catalog. The kitchens are functional enough that you can actually cook, which is clutch because eating out every meal in this area gets expensive fast, and honestly, sometimes you just want to grab groceries from the little shop down by the lake and make your own breakfast while watching the morning mist roll off the water.
What really sold me on this place though is the location specifics that you only appreciate once you’re here. You’re maybe a three-minute walk to the lake itself, but more importantly, you’re right at the base of some serious hiking territory – the trail up to Rysy starts practically from your doorstep, and if you’re into skiing, well, the Solisko lift is close enough that you can hear it running in the morning. The parking situation is decent (always a concern in these mountain spots), and the check-in was refreshingly normal – no weird key pickup drama or confusing instructions. I will say the walls aren’t super thick, so if you get stuck next to a family with energetic kids, you’ll know about it, but that’s pretty standard for this type of place. The 8-rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but it delivers exactly what you want: clean, comfortable, well-located apartments where you can settle in for a few days and actually explore the High Tatras without feeling like you’re just passing through. Plus, and this might sound weird, but there’s something really satisfying about staying somewhere that feels like part of the landscape rather than imposed on it.
