Old Residence – apartamenty blisko centrum i wyciągów
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Old Residence on Gimnazjalna Street – the name’s pretty straightforward, and sometimes that means boring, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked into this quiet residential street that feels worlds away from the tourist chaos, yet you can literally walk to Karpacz’s main drag in about eight minutes (I timed it because I’m weird like that). The building itself has this solid, no-nonsense vibe that screams “we’ve been here forever and we know what we’re doing.”
What really struck me was how the apartments manage to feel both spacious and cozy at the same time. I mean, you get proper living space here – not just a hotel room with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner. The kitchens are actually functional, which is rare in mountain towns where most places assume you’ll eat out every meal. I made coffee every morning and just sat by the window watching locals head to work while tourists stumbled around looking for breakfast spots. The whole setup feels like borrowing a friend’s place rather than staying in some sterile rental. And can we talk about the location for a second? Sure, everyone mentions being close to the ski lifts, but what they don’t tell you is that you’re also perfectly positioned for those early morning hikes when the trails aren’t packed with day-trippers from Wrocław.
The thing that really sells this place, though, is how quiet it gets at night. Karpacz can be… well, let’s just say it gets lively during peak season, but Gimnazjalna Street stays surprisingly peaceful. You might hear the occasional car, but nothing like the party noise you get closer to the main hotels. I actually slept better here than I do at home, which never happens when I travel. The owners clearly put thought into the details too – good WiFi (tested it on video calls), decent water pressure, and parking that doesn’t require a PhD in spatial geometry to navigate. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the furnishings are more “comfortable grandmother” than “Instagram influencer,” but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Especially when you’ve spent the day getting beaten up on the slopes or hiking your legs off in the Karkonosze. You just want a real place to collapse, cook some pierogi, and plan tomorrow’s adventure without feeling like you’re living in a hotel brochure.
