You know what struck me first about Olczański Dom? It’s tucked away on Stachonie street in this quieter pocket of Zakopane where you can actually hear yourself think – which honestly, after dealing with the crowds on Krupówki, feels like a small miracle. The building itself has this solid, mountain lodge feel without being overly rustic or trying too hard to be “authentic Polish highlander.” I mean, it’s clearly designed with visitors in mind, but it doesn’t feel like a tourist trap.

The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. You’re far enough from the main drag that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM, but close enough that a ten-minute walk gets you to all the restaurants and shops. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know their stuff about the area – not just the obvious attractions, but practical things like which trails get muddy first after rain, or that the local bus to Morskie Oko runs more frequently in the morning. The rooms themselves are comfortable in that unpretentious way that makes you want to kick off your hiking boots and actually relax. Mine had this great view toward the mountains, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious (you know how these converted buildings can be with their weird layouts). The Wi-Fi worked fine, which matters when you’re trying to upload those Tatra sunset photos, and there’s decent parking – not a given in Zakopane, trust me.

Here’s the thing about this place that really won me over: it feels like someone put actual thought into what travelers need, rather than just checking boxes. The breakfast spread was solid without being overwhelming, and they seemed to get the timing right – available early enough for hikers heading out, but not so regimented that you felt rushed. During peak summer season it gets busier obviously, but even then it maintained this relaxed atmosphere that’s harder to find at some of the bigger hotels closer to the center. The 9-point rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it does what it does really well. If you’re looking for a place that feels more like a well-run guesthouse than a corporate hotel, and you want to be in Zakopane without being overwhelmed by it, Olczański Dom hits that sweet spot. Plus, honestly, after a long day hiking in the Tatras, you just want somewhere comfortable to crash, and this place delivers on that front without any unnecessary complications.
