The house itself sits right there at number 68, and you’ll know it when you see it – there’s this genuine warmth about the place that’s immediately obvious. The owners (who actually live there, which makes all the difference) have this way of making you feel like you’re staying with family rather than just checking into another hotel room. I remember walking in and immediately smelling something incredible from the kitchen – turns out they were preparing a traditional Romanian dinner, and well, let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed when they invited me to join.

What really struck me was how they’ve managed to keep everything authentic without sacrificing comfort. The rooms are simple but thoughtfully done, with these beautiful wooden details that feel genuinely local rather than trying-too-hard rustic. You’ll hear the sounds of village life drifting through the windows – roosters in the morning (fair warning if you’re not an early riser), kids playing in the street, neighbors chatting over fences. It’s peaceful in a way that’s hard to find anymore, especially if you’re coming from a city. The beds are actually comfortable too, which – let’s be honest – isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian guesthouses. There’s decent parking right there, which matters more than you’d think when you’re navigating these narrow village streets with a rental car.

Here’s the thing though – and this is why I keep recommending this place to people – it’s the kind of spot where you end up learning things you never expected. The family knows everyone in Mehadica, and they’re genuinely excited to share stories about the area’s history, the best hiking trails in the nearby hills, or where to find the most incredible local cheese (seriously, don’t leave without trying it). It’s not touristy at all, which means you’re getting a real slice of Romanian village life. The rating speaks for itself – I’ve stayed at fancy hotels that don’t come close to this level of genuine hospitality. Sure, it’s not going to have a spa or room service, but if you’re looking for something real, something that’ll stick with you long after you leave, this is it. Plus, the value is absolutely unbeatable for what you get.
