Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Małe Ziółko on Lawendowa street – I mean, Sosnovka isn’t exactly on most people’s Poland travel radar, you know? But man, was I wrong. This little gem tucked away in what feels like the middle of nowhere actually turned out to be one of those places that makes you want to cancel your other plans and just… stay.
The name literally means “Little Herb” in Polish, and you get why the moment you step onto the property. There’s this incredible herb garden that runs along the side of the building – lavender, rosemary, thyme – and honestly, the smell hits you before you even park. The owners (and I’m pretty sure they live on-site) have this thing down to an art form. Check-in was refreshingly simple, none of that corporate hotel nonsense, just genuine people who actually care about whether you’re comfortable. The building itself has that restored farmhouse vibe without being too precious about it, if that makes sense. Original wooden beams, but the WiFi actually works – that sweet spot between authentic and functional.
What really got me though was how quiet it gets at night. I’m talking proper countryside quiet, where you can hear owls and the occasional rustle of whatever lives in the nearby forest. During the day, you’re maybe a 15-minute drive from the main road toward Kłodzko, but at night it feels like you’re completely cut off from civilization in the best possible way. The rooms are larger than you’d expect – mine had this massive window that looked out over rolling hills that go on forever. And you know what? The shower pressure was actually great, which honestly surprised me in a place this remote. Breakfast is where they really shine though – everything’s local, and I mean properly local. The eggs come from chickens you can literally see wandering around outside, and they make this incredible herb butter with stuff from their garden. I ended up talking to other guests over coffee (there’s something about this place that makes people chatty), and it turns out most folks either stumble across it by accident like I did, or they’re repeat visitors who’ve been coming back for years. That 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just really, really good at what it does.
