You know what struck me first about Lisabeth Residence? It’s tucked away on Scherfelova street in this really charming part of Poprad that most tourists rush right past on their way to the High Tatras. I mean, they’re missing out – this whole neighborhood has that authentic Slovak vibe without feeling touristy at all. The building itself is one of those beautifully renovated places that manages to feel both historic and completely modern inside. Walking up to the entrance, you can actually hear birds chirping from the nearby park, which honestly surprised me given that we’re still technically in the city center.
The staff here – and I’m not just saying this – actually seem to care about what they’re doing. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, no weird upselling or confusing explanations about amenities. They knew I was coming from the train station and immediately offered tips about the best walking route to the old town (it’s about eight minutes if you take the shortcut through the little square). The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed – everything you need is there, but they didn’t go overboard with unnecessary stuff. The beds are properly comfortable, not those rock-hard European mattresses you sometimes get stuck with. I stayed on the third floor and loved how quiet it was at night, even though there’s a tram line not too far away.
What really sold me on this place, though, is how it sits perfectly between Poprad’s two main draws. You’re literally a fifteen-minute walk from the AquaCity thermal complex – which, if you haven’t been, is absolutely worth the trip – and the train station that’ll take you up to Skalnaté Pleso is practically next door. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: Poprad itself is actually worth exploring. There’s this fantastic little café about two blocks away where locals grab their morning coffee, and the Saturday market in the main square has some of the best cheese I’ve had in Slovakia. The Lisabeth Residence team seemed to know all these spots – they gave me a hand-drawn map with their personal recommendations, not some glossy tourist brochure. Parking was easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Slovak town centers will appreciate. I stayed during late spring when the weather was perfect for hiking, but I could see this being a cozy winter base camp too – the whole place has that warm, welcoming feeling that makes you want to come back after a day in the mountains and just relax.
