Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Lex Studio on Tanorok street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked away in Praid. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not trying too hard to be impressed.

The thing about this little studio hotel is that it gets the basics really, really right. I mean, the rooms are clean in that satisfying way where you can tell someone actually cares about the details – not just the obvious stuff, but like, the corners are dust-free and the bathroom grout is properly maintained. The studio setup works better than you’d think too, especially if you’re the type who likes having a bit of space to spread out your stuff. There’s this nice flow between the sleeping area and the little kitchenette that doesn’t feel cramped, which honestly surprised me given how compact European accommodations can be. The beds are firm (thank god), and the soundproofing is decent – I barely heard the neighbors, though I did catch the occasional car passing by on Tanorok street in the early morning.

What really won me over though was how the staff handled things. Check-in was smooth, no weird bureaucratic nonsense, and when I asked about parking – which, let’s face it, is always a gamble in these smaller Romanian towns – they had it sorted without making me feel like I was asking for a huge favor. The location is actually pretty clever too. Praid isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, but if you’re here for the salt mine (which you probably are), you’re positioned perfectly without being stuck in the middle of whatever tour group chaos happens during peak season. I walked to the town center in maybe ten minutes, and there’s this little bakery about three blocks down that does these incredible pastries – the kind of local spot you’d never find if you were staying at some big chain hotel on the main drag. The whole area has this quiet, residential vibe that I found way more relaxing than I expected. Sure, it’s not going to win any architectural awards, but there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on being comfortable rather than Instagram-worthy. That 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a couple days – it’s the kind of score that comes from consistently doing the small things well rather than one or two flashy amenities.
