You know what caught me off guard about LAWIS Apartments? I was expecting another cookie-cutter place on 29. augusta street, but this spot actually feels like someone put real thought into it. I mean, Poprad gets a lot of tourists heading to the High Tatras, so you’d think most places would just phone it in – but these guys didn’t.
The apartments themselves are honestly pretty impressive for a 4-star place. Everything feels deliberately chosen rather than just functional, if that makes sense. The kitchens are actually usable (I’m talking real counter space and decent appliances), which is huge if you’re staying more than a couple nights or traveling with kids who have specific food needs. The beds are solid too – not those saggy mattresses you sometimes get in apartment rentals. I slept well, and I’m usually pretty picky about that stuff. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even though you’re right in the middle of things. The windows do their job, and honestly, the street isn’t as busy as some of the main drags closer to the train station anyway.
Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to the main square without dragging your luggage too far, but you’re not dealing with all the noise and chaos right in the tourist center. There’s a decent grocery store within a few blocks (crucial for apartment stays), and you’re close enough to the railway station that getting to Starý Smokovec or the other mountain towns is pretty straightforward. The whole setup just works – parking wasn’t a nightmare like I’d worried about, and check-in was refreshingly normal. None of that “meet us at this random location with exact change” nonsense you sometimes get with apartment rentals. The staff actually seemed to know what they were doing, which shouldn’t be remarkable but honestly sometimes is. I guess what impressed me most was how everything felt intentional rather than improvised. Like, the lighting actually works for reading, the shower has decent water pressure, and there are enough outlets where you’d actually want to plug things in. Small stuff, but it adds up when you’re trying to settle in somewhere for a few days.
