This little gem sits right in the heart of Colibita, and I mean that literally – you’re basically surrounded by some of the most gorgeous mountain scenery in Bistrita-Nasaud County, with Lake Colibita just a stone’s throw away. The location alone is worth the trip, honestly. You wake up to these incredible views of the Calimani Mountains, and if you’re lucky enough to visit during autumn (which I’d highly recommend), the whole area just explodes with color.

What really struck me about La Hambare wasn’t just the setting, though – it was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about making your stay memorable. The owner, who I chatted with during check-in, actually knows the hiking trails around here like the back of his hand and gave me some incredible recommendations that I never would’ve found on my own. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works and the beds are actually decent, which matters more than you’d think after a day of exploring. The traditional Romanian touches throughout the property feel authentic rather than touristy, if that makes sense. Plus, parking is easy (always a relief when you’re driving through mountain roads), and the whole place has this peaceful, almost therapeutic quiet to it. I mean, sure, you might hear some early morning bird chatter, but that’s part of the charm when you’re staying in a place like this.

Here’s the thing that really sets La Hambare apart – it’s got that rare combination of being genuinely relaxing while still putting you right in the middle of everything you’d want to explore in the area. The nearby Colibita-Bistrita resort area has some great hiking trails, and honestly, the lake is perfect for those early morning walks when the mist is still hanging over the water. During my stay, I noticed they get a good mix of Romanian families and international visitors, which usually indicates a place that’s doing something right. The breakfast spread was solid – local specialties mixed with standard fare – and the dining room has these huge windows that basically turn your meal into a nature documentary. At this price point and with that 9.9 rating (which, after staying there, I totally understand), La Hambare delivers way more than you’d expect. It’s the kind of place where you actually end up extending your stay because you’re not ready to leave yet.
