The moment you step onto their terrace (and trust me, you’ll spend a lot of time there), you get why they call it “Panoramic.” The view stretches across the Carpathian foothills in a way that makes you forget you’re technically staying at what some might call a modest mountain lodge. The morning mist rolling through those valleys? Pure magic. And honestly, that 9.8 rating starts making perfect sense once you’ve been there a day or two.

What really gets me about this place is how the owners – they’re locals who actually know the area – have managed to nail the small stuff that bigger hotels completely miss. The rooms are clean and comfortable, sure, but it’s things like how they position the beds so you wake up facing those mountains, or how they’ve got this little common area where you can grab proper Romanian coffee (not that instant nonsense) while planning your day. The parking situation is actually decent too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with mountain roads and rental cars. I mean, I’ve stayed at places where you’re hiking half a mile uphill with your luggage, but here you’re basically right at the door. The check-in process is refreshingly straightforward – no corporate nonsense, just real people who seem genuinely happy you’re there.

You know what really sold me though? It’s how they’ve positioned themselves as this perfect base camp for exploring the Maramureș region without being touristy about it. The family running the place will casually mention the best hiking trails or when the local market happens, but they’re not pushing some overpriced tour package on you. During my stay in late spring, the place was busy but not crowded – seems like they’ve figured out that sweet spot where you meet other travelers without feeling like you’re at summer camp. The evenings are wonderfully quiet (mountain air will do that), and there’s something about sitting on that terrace after a day of exploring, watching the sun set behind those peaks, that makes you understand why people keep coming back here. If you’re looking for a spa resort or fancy dining, this isn’t your spot – but if you want an authentic mountain experience with hosts who actually care about your stay, Krusta gets it right.
