The panzió sits at number 12, and I swear you could miss it if you’re not paying attention, but that’s part of its charm.

The thing is, this place punches way above its three-star rating – that 9.4 score isn’t just inflated tourist nonsense. The owners (I think they’re a local family) actually seem to care about the details that matter. My room was small but thoughtfully laid out, with these thick walls that kept things surprisingly quiet despite being right on the square. And speaking of the square, you’ll hear the church bells throughout the day, which some people might find annoying, but honestly? It’s part of the whole experience. Plus, you’re steps away from some decent traditional restaurants – there’s this place that does incredible kürtőskalács (chimney cake) that you can smell from the panzió’s entrance in the mornings.

What really sold me was how the staff handled the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Parking can be tricky in the old town center, but they sorted that out quickly, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no endless forms or upselling attempts. The breakfast spread was honest Hungarian-Romanian fare, nothing fancy but properly done, and they actually knew how to make coffee that didn’t taste like dishwater. I stayed there in late September when the tourist crowds had thinned out, and you could feel the town settling into its quieter rhythm. The whole area gets pretty lively during summer festivals, but even then, the thick walls and decent windows kept things comfortable for sleeping. It’s not luxury by any stretch – don’t expect a spa or room service – but it’s exactly what you want when you’re exploring this part of Transylvania and need a solid, authentic base that won’t break the bank.
