Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Holiday Tatry on Majerczykówka – the name’s a bit of a mouthful, and finding 17C in Poronin took a little hunting around the winding streets. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are tucked away like this. The moment I stepped out of the car, I could hear the Dunajec River in the distance, and there’s something about that mountain air that just hits different here in the Tatras foothills.
The domki (little houses, basically) are actually pretty thoughtfully designed – I mean, you can tell someone put real consideration into making these feel like homes rather than just tourist boxes. Each one has this cozy, cabin-like vibe without being too rustic, if that makes sense. The wooden accents feel authentic, not like some chain hotel’s idea of “mountain charm.” What really got me was the view from my terrace in the morning – you’re looking right toward the Tatra peaks, and on clear days (which, let’s be real, aren’t guaranteed in this part of Poland), it’s absolutely stunning. The sound situation is pretty ideal too – quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well, but you’re not isolated from the village life happening down the hill.
Parking’s straightforward, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling ski gear or hiking packs. The check-in was refreshingly normal – no overly complicated key card systems or confusing instructions. Just simple, efficient, and the staff actually knew the area well enough to give decent recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little trail that connects to the main hiking routes without having to drive to the crowded trailheads near Zakopane. Speaking of Zakopane, you’re close enough (maybe 15 minutes by car) to hit up the restaurants and nightlife when you want it, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the summer crowds or winter ski traffic constantly rumbling past your window. The only minor thing – and this is pretty common in the region – is that the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty during peak times, but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of coming here? I ended up spending way more time on that terrace with a book than I planned, watching the weather roll across the mountains. For a 4-star place, it delivers on the comfort without trying too hard to be fancy, and that 9 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days.
