Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from KOA – Aparthotel when I first walked down Strada Traian, but this place completely surprised me. The building itself has this really clean, modern vibe that feels refreshing against Brașov’s mix of medieval and communist-era architecture. You know what struck me first? How quiet it actually is here – I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the chaos of Piața Sfatului, but Strada Traian has this residential feel that locals seem to prefer over the touristy center.
The aparthotel concept really works well here, especially if you’re planning to stay more than just a couple nights. Each unit feels like someone’s actual apartment rather than a sterile hotel room – there’s a proper kitchen where you can actually cook (the nearby Carrefour on Calea București is perfect for groceries), and the living spaces have enough room to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The staff genuinely knows the area too, which is rare. When I asked about hiking trails up to Tampa, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map – he actually sketched out the route he takes with his dog and warned me about the muddy sections after rain. That 9.7 rating makes sense when you experience little touches like that.
What really sold me on this place was its position for exploring Brașov properly. You’re close enough to walk everywhere that matters, but far enough from the main square that you’re not dealing with tour groups gathering outside your window at 7 AM. The Council House and Black Church are maybe twelve minutes on foot, and if you want to drive up to Rasnov Citadel or Bran Castle, you’re not fighting through Old Town traffic to get out of the city. Parking here is actually straightforward too – there’s space right outside, which anyone who’s tried to park near the center knows is basically a miracle. The neighborhood has this authentic feel where you’ll see families walking to the local bakery in the morning, and there’s something nice about staying somewhere that feels part of the real Brașov rather than the postcard version. Plus, the value is incredible for what you get – four-star comfort without the inflated prices you’d pay closer to the main attractions.
