Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Kleines Hotel on Piata Huet, I almost walked right past it. The entrance is sort of tucked away, and you know what? That’s actually perfect because it means you’re not dealing with crowds of tourists stumbling around looking for their lobby at all hours. The building itself sits right on one of Sibiu’s most gorgeous squares (seriously, the medieval architecture here is insane), but once you’re inside, it feels like you’ve discovered this quiet little secret.

The thing about staying in Sibiu’s Old Town is that most hotels either charge you a fortune or stick you in some renovated communist-era block that’s “technically” historic. Kleines Hotel manages to thread that needle – it’s got character without being stuffy, and the rooms are actually comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. I mean, sure, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or whatever, but everything works and it’s genuinely cozy. The staff here really knows their stuff too, which matters more than you’d think. They’ll tell you which restaurants the locals actually go to (not the tourist traps around the corner) and – this saved me about an hour of wandering – exactly where to find parking that won’t cost you half your travel budget.

What really got me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re literally in the heart of everything. The square gets pretty lively during the day, especially when there’s some festival or market happening, but by evening it settles into this peaceful vibe that’s perfect for just sitting by your window with a beer from the little shop down on Strada Ocnei. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from the Bridge of Lies and all those postcard-worthy spots, but you’re also close enough to the newer part of town that you can grab actual groceries or find a pharmacy without hiking halfway across the city. Honestly, the location alone makes this place worth it – you can explore the cobblestone streets and medieval towers during the day, then retreat to somewhere that feels like a proper home base rather than just another hotel room you’ll forget about in six months.
