Look, I’ll be honest – when I first rolled up to Kavalliera Pensiune in Cotormani, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s this little village in Romania that most people probably can’t even pronounce, and the address literally just says “FN” which basically means “no street number.” But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the outside.

The thing about Kavalliera is that it gets all the small stuff right, which is actually way harder than it sounds. Check-in was this refreshingly simple affair – no corporate nonsense, just genuine people who seemed genuinely happy to see me. The rooms are clean in that satisfying way where you can tell someone actually cares about the details, not just going through the motions. I stayed in one of their standard rooms and honestly, it felt more like crashing at a friend’s well-kept cottage than staying at a typical hotel. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s something about the whole setup that just feels… settled, I guess? Like it’s been thoughtfully arranged by people who understand what travelers actually need after a long day exploring the area.

What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night – and I mean genuinely quiet, not city quiet. You’re in proper Romanian countryside here, so you’ll hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which is honestly worth the trip alone if you’re coming from somewhere hectic. The staff knows the area inside and out, which comes in handy because this isn’t exactly tourist central. They pointed me toward some local spots I never would have found otherwise, including this little family-run restaurant about ten minutes away that doesn’t even have a proper sign but serves incredible traditional food. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find – you’re not just staying somewhere, you’re getting a genuine taste of what life is like in this part of Romania. Sure, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect luxury spa treatments or marble lobbies, but honestly? That 9.6 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there. It’s the kind of place that does exactly what it sets out to do, does it well, and leaves you feeling like you discovered something special rather than just another hotel room.
