Карпатська Модринка turned out to be a real gem in Vorokhta — I booked last minute for a February weekend and didn’t regret it. This four-star hotel is located on Ivan Franko Street, so it’s about a 15-minute walk to the ski lifts (the road gets a bit slippery in winter, but manageable). There’s parking — a small area near the hotel, though spots might be tight during peak season. Check-in was quick, staff was friendly, although not everyone speaks English.
The rooms are quite cozy, furniture isn’t brand new but everything’s clean and functional. Hot water was always available, heating worked well too — important in the mountains during winter. The window offered a decent view of the slopes, especially in the morning when sunlight hits the snow-covered spruces. Breakfast is simple but filling — porridge, scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese, tea and coffee. The hotel restaurant operates until 10 PM, home-style cooking with reasonable prices. Wi-Fi worked throughout, speed was fine for work and social media.
What I particularly liked — the hotel doesn’t buzz with tourists even on weekends, the atmosphere stays peaceful. The concierge recommended several hiking routes, one of them (to the waterfall) was wonderful. The only downside — walls are a bit thin, you can hear neighbors if they’re active. Overall, for this price and location — solid four stars, we’ll be back in spring to see the Carpathians without snow.
