Just got back from Калина in Dragobrat, and I have to say — this place is really worth considering, especially if you’re looking for a genuine mountain getaway without unnecessary pretensions. This three-star hotel is located right in the heart of the highland, and when I say “in the heart,” I mean literally — you step out of your room and immediately have the Carpathian slopes spread out before you. The staff here is very friendly (though not everyone speaks English, but that rather adds to the authenticity), and the breakfasts are classic homemade dishes that go so well after a morning walk along mountain trails.

The rooms at Калина are what I’d call “cozy simplicity.” Nothing too fancy, but everything necessary is there: comfortable beds, hot shower (which you especially appreciate after a day in the fresh air), and — what pleasantly surprised me — pretty decent Wi-Fi even at this altitude. The only thing to note is that the walls are a bit thin, so if your neighbors like to return late from parties, you’ll hear it. But honestly, most guests here go to bed early because everyone comes for active recreation. In winter, the hotel becomes a real find for skiers — the lifts are literally just a few minutes’ walk away, and in summer, incredible hiking opportunities open up from here. Parking is free (though the road here can become a real test for your car, especially in snowy weather), and the prices are quite reasonable for such a unique location in the mountains.
