Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to House Prestige Wood in Gliczarów Górny – I mean, you’re pretty deep into the Tatra foothills here, and sometimes these mountain places can be all rustic charm but zero comfort. Boy, was I wrong. The moment you walk into this place, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what travelers need, not just what looks good in photos.
The location on Matygówka street is actually perfect if you know the area – you’re far enough from the main tourist chaos in Zakopane (about 20 minutes by car) but close enough that you can easily hit Bukowina Tatrzańska for skiing or those amazing thermal pools. What I really loved was how quiet it gets here at night. You know that mountain silence where you can actually hear yourself think? That’s what you get. The rooms have this wonderful woody smell – not artificial pine air freshener, but actual timber – and the beds are seriously comfortable. I’m talking proper support, not those saggy mattresses you sometimes get in mountain lodges.
The staff really knows their stuff about the local hiking trails, which honestly saved my trip. Instead of just pointing me toward the crowded paths everyone talks about, they suggested this lesser-known route toward Turbacz that starts practically from their back door. The breakfast spread is solid too – proper Polish mountain food alongside the usual continental stuff, and they actually make decent coffee (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given in smaller Polish hotels). The only tiny complaint I’d have is that the WiFi can be a bit spotty during busy periods, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise when you’re trying to disconnect. The parking situation is straightforward – there’s plenty of space, which is clutch when you’re hauling ski gear or hiking equipment. I ended up extending my stay an extra night because, well, why rush back to city stress when you’ve found a place that just gets mountain hospitality right?
