Hotel Marabella

You know what struck me first about Hotel Marabella? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street – Strada Târgul Peștelui – that most tourists walk right past while they’re rushing to the main square. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute stroll from all the action in Sibiu’s Old Town, but somehow you feel like you’ve discovered this quiet pocket that the crowds haven’t found yet. The building itself has that weathered charm you see throughout the historic center, though honestly, don’t expect anything too fancy – this is a solid 3-star place that knows exactly what it is.

What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a tourist brochure – he told me about this little Romanian place two streets over where locals go, and mentioned that the Saturday morning market near Piața Mică gets pretty busy if you’re trying to sleep in (the windows aren’t super soundproof, just so you know). The rooms are clean and comfortable enough, with that slightly old-fashioned European hotel feel – think solid wooden furniture and simple but functional bathrooms. Nothing Instagram-worthy, but after a long day wandering around the medieval streets, you’ll sleep just fine.

Here’s the thing about staying in Sibiu’s Old Town – parking can be a nightmare, especially during festival season. Marabella actually has a few spots behind the building, which saved me from driving in circles looking for somewhere to leave the car. The whole area gets this lovely golden light in the evening when the sun hits the old buildings just right, and from some of the upper floor rooms, you can catch glimpses of the famous “eyes” rooftops that Sibiu is known for. I’d definitely book this place again, especially for that 8.4 rating price point – you’re getting honest value in a location that lets you experience the real rhythm of this beautiful Saxon city. Just bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, because those cobblestones can get a bit echoey when delivery trucks roll through early in the morning.
