Hotel Eufória

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hotel Eufória in Nová Lesná – I mean, it’s tucked away in this tiny Slovak village that most people probably can’t even pronounce. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not looking for them. The hotel sits right there on the main road (well, the only real road), and while it might look modest from the outside, there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup that hits you the moment you walk in.

What really struck me was how the staff actually seemed to care – not in that fake hospitality way, but like they were genuinely interested in making sure you had a good time. The woman at reception spoke better English than I expected, which was a relief since my Slovak extends to about three words. The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy, and here’s the thing that surprised me: the beds are actually really good. I’m talking proper sleep, not that tossing-and-turning nonsense you get at some places. The bathroom’s nothing special, but everything works and the water pressure’s decent. There’s this view from some of the rooms toward the Tatras that honestly makes you stop what you’re doing and just stare for a minute.

The location is pretty perfect if you’re planning to explore the High Tatras – you’re literally a few minutes from the Tatranská Lomnica cable car, and Skalnaté Pleso is right there waiting for you. Parking’s easy (and free, which is always nice), and the area’s quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well, even with the windows open. I stayed there in late spring when the tourist crowds hadn’t really hit yet, and mornings were incredibly peaceful – just birds and the occasional car heading up toward the mountains. The breakfast was simple but solid, nothing fancy but they make a decent coffee and there’s enough variety to get you going for a day of hiking. What I appreciated most was that nobody was trying to oversell the place or make promises they couldn’t keep. It’s a straightforward, honest hotel that does what it says on the tin, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re more interested in the mountains outside than the thread count of your sheets.
