So I ended up at Hotel Bulevard in Hunedoara completely by accident – was supposed to stay somewhere else but honestly, best travel mishap ever. The place sits right on Bd. Republicii, which is basically the main drag through town, and you know what? That sounds like it’d be noisy but it’s actually pretty quiet, especially at night when the local shops close up.
First thing that hit me walking in was how they’ve managed to keep that classic Romanian hotel vibe without making it feel stuffy or outdated. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling – not like those sterile chain places where everything’s beige and forgettable. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that “let me explain seventeen amenities you’ll never use” nonsense. The staff actually seemed to know the area well, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to figure out where to grab dinner or whether it’s worth walking to Corvin Castle (spoiler: it absolutely is, and it’s closer than you’d expect).
The room was… well, solid. I mean, it’s a 4-star place and it feels like one without trying too hard. Decent-sized windows, comfortable bed that didn’t have me tossing around all night, and – this is weirdly important – really good water pressure in the shower. You don’t realize how much you miss that until you’ve spent a week in places where the shower feels like a gentle mist. The whole setup felt practical rather than flashy, which honestly matched the vibe of Hunedoara itself. This isn’t Bucharest or Cluj – it’s a working town with incredible history, and the hotel gets that.
What really won me over was the little stuff. Parking was actually available (not a given in Romanian city centers), the WiFi worked without me having to call the front desk three times, and the breakfast – while not extensive – had proper local options alongside the usual hotel fare. Plus, being right there on Republicii means you’re walking distance to pretty much everything that matters. The castle’s obviously the main draw, but there are some solid local restaurants within a few blocks, and the old town area has more character than I expected.
I stayed during what I guess was shoulder season – early fall – and the place had this relaxed, unhurried feel. Not dead quiet, but not overrun with tour groups either. The kind of atmosphere where you can actually have a conversation in the lobby without shouting over chaos. Honestly, if you’re planning to explore Hunedoara and the surrounding area (and you should – the whole region’s got this fascinating mix of medieval and industrial history), Hotel Bulevard makes a lot of sense as a base. It’s comfortable without being pretentious, the location’s genuinely useful, and it feels like the kind of place where they’re more focused on making sure you have what you need than impressing you with unnecessary extras.
