HOTEL BOUTIQUE CASA CHITIC -HOTEL AND RESTAURANT Str Johann Gott nr7
You know what struck me first about Casa Chitic? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street – Johann Gött – that honestly feels like you’ve stepped into a medieval fairytale, which I guess you sort of have since you’re literally in the heart of Brașov’s old town. The building itself has that authentic Transylvanian charm without trying too hard, if that makes sense. When I walked through the entrance, there was this immediate sense of intimacy – it’s genuinely boutique, not one of those places that just slaps the word on their sign. The restaurant downstairs fills the space with these amazing cooking aromas (they do some seriously good Romanian dishes mixed with international stuff), and honestly, that homey smell of garlic and herbs was better than any expensive lobby candle.
What really got me was how the staff actually remembered my name after the first day – and I mean, they have maybe 10 rooms max, so it’s not like staying at some massive chain where you’re just room 237. The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world character and modern comfort. I had one facing the street, and yes, you’ll hear some footsteps on the cobblestones, especially during summer evenings when tourists are wandering around, but it’s not traffic noise – it’s more like… atmospheric background music? The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for a historic building, and the shower pressure was actually decent, which anyone who’s traveled through older European hotels will appreciate. There’s free WiFi that works well (I had video calls with no issues), and the beds are comfortable enough that I slept better than I do at home.
Here’s the thing about the location – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Black Church and Council Square, but you’re on a quieter side street so you get the convenience without the constant tour group chatter. I could grab my morning coffee from the hotel restaurant and be standing in front of those famous colorful baroque buildings before the coffee cooled down. The staff gave me actual insider tips too, like which hiking trail up Tampa Mountain is less crowded, and where locals go for the best papanași (trust me, ask them about this). Parking can be tricky since it’s the old town, but they helped arrange a spot nearby – though honestly, once you’re here, you won’t need a car for exploring Brașov itself. That 9.4 rating isn’t inflated marketing nonsense; it’s what happens when a place focuses on doing the basics really well instead of trying to be everything to everyone. If you want a genuine local experience with comfortable accommodations and food that’ll make you cancel your dinner reservations elsewhere, Casa Chitic delivers without any pretense.
