So I’ve stayed at Hotel AquaCity Seasons a few times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that just gets better the more you understand Poprad. The location on Sportova street is actually pretty perfect – you’re walking distance from the main square, but far enough from the train station that you won’t hear those early morning departures to the High Tatras. The building itself has this modern four-star feel without being stuffy, you know? Clean lines, decent lobby with comfortable seating where you can actually plan your mountain routes without feeling rushed.
What really sets this place apart is how it works for different types of travelers. I mean, you’ve got families heading to AquaCity (the massive water park complex) literally next door – and I do mean literally, there’s a connecting passage so kids don’t have to bundle up in winter. But you also get serious hikers using it as a base for Spiš Castle or the cable car up to Lomnický štít. The staff actually knows the bus schedules to various trailheads, which sounds small but saves you so much hassle when you’re trying to catch that 7:30 AM departure to Štrbské Pleso. Room-wise, they’re solid – good blackout curtains (essential if you’re dealing with those bright summer mornings), decent shower pressure, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up sore after a day of hiking. The breakfast situation is better than most Slovak hotels this size, with actual local options mixed in with the standard European spread.
Here’s the thing though – and this might sound weird – the hotel really shines in shoulder seasons. Spring and fall when the water park isn’t packed with families, but the mountains are still accessible. You get this quieter vibe, better service, and honestly better rates. Summer can get a bit hectic with the AquaCity crowds, though if you’re traveling with kids, that’s obviously the whole point. Parking is included and actually sufficient, which anyone who’s driven around Slovak mountain towns will appreciate. The whole area gets this lovely evening light in late afternoon – there’s a small terrace area where you can sit with a beer and watch people heading home from work while planning tomorrow’s adventure. It’s not fancy, but it works really well as a comfortable base for exploring this part of Slovakia. Plus the rating of 8 out of 10 feels about right – it’s genuinely good at what it does without trying to be something it’s not.
