You know what struck me first about Hotel Apollonia? It’s tucked away on this quiet side street – Neagoe Basarab – just off the main drag, which honestly is perfect because you’re close enough to everything but you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling around outside your window at 2 AM. I mean, Braşov’s old town can get pretty lively, especially during summer when the festival crowds roll in. The building itself has this understated charm – it’s not trying to be some grand palace, just a solid 3-star that actually delivers on what it promises.
The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – clean lines, decent beds (and I’m picky about mattresses), and these little touches that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. The bathroom amenities are better than you’d expect for a mid-range place, and the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, which… well, if you’ve stayed in Romanian hotels before, you know that’s not always a given. What really won me over was the staff – they seem to genuinely know the city, not just the tourist traps. The front desk guy gave me directions to this fantastic traditional restaurant that I never would have found otherwise, plus he warned me about the construction on Tampa Boulevard that would have messed up my morning plans.
Here’s the thing about the location – you’re literally a 10-minute walk from Council Square and all the medieval stuff everyone comes to see, but you’re also positioned perfectly if you want to head up to Tampa Mountain for sunrise (and trust me, it’s worth the early wake-up call). The neighborhood feels authentically local too – there’s a small grocery store around the corner, a couple of cafés where you’ll hear more Romanian than English, and you can actually find street parking if you circle the block a few times. The 8.1 rating makes sense once you’ve been there – it’s not luxury, but it hits that sweet spot where everything just works smoothly. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to explore beyond just the tourist center of Braşov.
