Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Sibiu over the years, and Hotel Anastasia on Bulevardul General Vasile Milea honestly surprised me. You know what I mean when you walk into a place and it just feels right? That’s this hotel. It’s tucked away on this tree-lined boulevard that most tourists never see – about a 15-minute walk from the main square, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to everything but far enough to avoid the summer crowds stumbling back from the bars at 2 AM.
The thing that got me was how they’ve managed to keep that old-world Romanian charm without making everything feel like a museum. The lobby has these gorgeous hardwood floors that creak just a little when you walk (in a good way), and the staff – well, they actually seem to care about what they’re doing. I mean, the woman at reception remembered my name after one night and asked how my day in the old town went. That’s rare these days. My room was on the third floor facing the boulevard, and honestly, I was worried about traffic noise, but General Vasile Milea is surprisingly quiet in the evenings. The windows are thick enough that you barely hear the occasional car, and there’s something really peaceful about watching the locals walking their dogs under the streetlights.
What really sells this place for me is the attention to small stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The shower pressure is excellent (trust me, this matters more than you think after walking around Sibiu’s cobblestones all day), there’s a proper desk if you need to get work done, and – this is huge – the WiFi actually works throughout the entire building. I spent a morning working in the little seating area by the stairs because the light was perfect, and the connection never dropped. The breakfast situation is solid too, though don’t expect anything fancy. It’s that hearty Romanian spread with fresh bread, local cheeses, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. They’ve got parking behind the building which is honestly a godsend if you’re driving – finding a spot near the center is basically impossible during peak season. The only thing I’d change? Maybe add a few more power outlets in the rooms, but that’s me being picky. For a 4-star place with a 9 rating, Hotel Anastasia delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any of the pretentious nonsense you sometimes get in this price range.
