Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of apartments across Europe, and honestly? This place on Námestie Svätého Egídia caught me off guard in the best way. You know how most “central” apartments either put you right on a noisy main drag or actually aren’t that central at all? Well, this one actually nailed it – you’re literally on Saint Aegidius Square (I had to look up how to pronounce Egídia, by the way), which means you’re in the heart of Poprad’s old town but on one of those charming squares that locals still use for their evening strolls.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, not some sterile rental property. I mean, the furnishings are thoughtful – there’s this cozy reading corner by the window where you can watch people heading to the nearby cafés, and the kitchen actually has proper cooking equipment if you want to grab groceries from the Tesco just a few blocks down. What really won me over was the little touches that show someone cares about this place: good coffee in the cupboard, extra blankets that are actually soft, and – this might sound weird – but the shower pressure is fantastic. You’d be surprised how many places skimp on that. The Wi-Fi held up perfectly even when I was video calling back home, which matters when you’re trying to work remotely from Slovakia.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I arrived: parking can be a bit tricky around the square (there are spots, but they fill up during the day), so I’d recommend asking about it when you book. Also, if you’re planning day trips to the High Tatras – which, honestly, is probably why you’re in Poprad anyway – you’re about a ten-minute walk to the train station. The early morning trains to Štrbské Pleso are pretty reliable, and there’s a decent bakery on the way if you want to grab something for the hike. The neighborhood gets delightfully quiet in the evenings, especially midweek, though weekends bring a bit more energy with people dining at the restaurants around the square. I actually found myself looking forward to coming back each day, which doesn’t always happen with vacation rentals. The whole setup just works – you feel like you’re living in Poprad rather than just passing through, and sometimes that makes all the difference in how you experience a place.
