So here’s the thing about Holiday Home Karpacz Kowary – it’s actually in Kowary, not Karpacz like the name suggests, which threw me off at first. But honestly? That turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Kowary is this quieter mountain town that sits right at the base of the Karkonosze range, and you get all the hiking and mountain access without the tourist crowds that pack Karpacz during peak season. The place itself is managed by Interhome, which I’ve found to be pretty reliable – they actually answer their phones when something goes wrong, unlike some of the smaller local operators.
The house has that solid, no-nonsense Central European feel to it. You know what I mean – thick walls, decent heating (crucial in winter, trust me), and furniture that’s built to last rather than just look pretty in photos. The kitchen is actually functional – I cooked dinner several nights and wasn’t frustrated by tiny pots or dull knives, which is honestly rare in vacation rentals. Parking is right there, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling groceries up mountain roads. The neighborhood is residential and genuinely quiet – we could hear church bells in the morning but not much else. Internet worked fine for video calls, though it did get a bit sluggish during evening hours when everyone’s streaming.
What really sold me on this spot was the location for hiking. You’re literally a fifteen-minute walk from the trailhead that takes you up to Śnieżka – that’s the highest peak in the Sudetes, by the way. Most people drive to Karpacz and take the chairlift, but starting from Kowary means you hit the trails early before they get crowded. There’s also this great local restaurant called Karczma Pod Smugami just down the hill – nothing fancy, but they do proper pierogi and the beer is cold. The woman who runs it speaks decent English if your Polish is rusty. Oh, and if you’re here in winter, Kolorowa ski area is maybe ten minutes by car, though it’s more of a family hill than anything challenging. Check-in was smooth – they left clear instructions and keys were exactly where they said they’d be. Only minor complaint is that the shower pressure could be better, but that’s pretty standard for older mountain houses. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you can actually relax without feeling like you need to be somewhere else every minute.
