So I stumbled across HM Apartamenty during my third trip to Zakopane, and honestly? I wish I’d found this place years ago. It’s tucked right on Przewodników Tatrzańskich street – which, yeah, is a mouthful to pronounce but basically puts you in the sweet spot where you’re close enough to hear the evening buzz from Krupówki street but far enough that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists at 2 AM. The building itself has that clean, modern apartment feel that’s become pretty common in Polish mountain towns, but there’s something about the way they’ve set it up that just works.
What really got me was how they’ve nailed the balance between hotel service and apartment independence. I mean, you get your own space with a proper kitchen – not one of those sad hotel kitchenettes with a broken microwave – but there’s still someone at reception who actually knows the area. The woman who checked me in gave me this detailed rundown of which trails to hit based on the weather forecast, and she was spot-on about avoiding the Morskie Oko crowds on Saturday morning. The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious, and you know what? The Wi-Fi actually works, which is more than I can say for some of the traditional mountain hotels I’ve stayed at. There’s decent parking too, though you’ll want to grab a spot early during peak season because finding street parking near the center in July is basically impossible.
The location is honestly the real winner here. You’re maybe a 7-minute walk to the main pedestrian strip, but you can also head the other direction toward the cable car stations without fighting through the souvenir shop gauntlet. I loved being able to grab fresh bread from the little bakery around the corner in the mornings – there’s this elderly Polish woman who runs it and makes these incredible poppy seed rolls that became my daily ritual. The neighborhood has that authentic residential feel where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and kids playing in the small parks, which gives you a better sense of actual Zakopane life beyond the tourist bubble. It’s the kind of place where you can cook your own dinner with ingredients from the local market, or walk five minutes and have your pick of highland restaurants. The apartment setup means you’re not tied to hotel meal times or overpriced room service, but you’re also not stuck in some remote location where you need to drive everywhere. For a 4-star rating, it punches above its weight – I’ve definitely stayed at pricier places that felt more generic and less connected to the town itself.
