Guest House Pid Dubom Карпати Під Дубом turned out to be a real gem in the village of Dubyna near Skole. When I first saw this three-star guesthouse, I understood that the name “Pid Dubom” (Under the Oak) is absolutely justified — a huge old oak tree really does shade part of the building, and underneath it are comfortable benches where it’s so pleasant to drink morning coffee. The hosts are very welcoming, they met us at half past nine in the evening (even though we arrived late), quickly showed us the room and told us about local hiking routes. Parking is free right next to the house — for the Carpathians this is a big plus, especially when you’re carrying lots of gear for hiking.
The rooms are simple but cozy, with wooden furniture and a genuine homely atmosphere. Breakfasts are tasty and hearty — homemade cheese pancakes, scrambled eggs with vegetables from the garden, fresh bread (the hostess bakes it herself). Wi-Fi works pretty well, though sometimes it’s a bit slow — but is that really why you come to the Carpathians? In winter it’s especially cozy here, there’s a room with a fireplace, and in summer you can sit in the gazebo among the flowers. By the way, if you’re planning to get up early for Pip Ivan or other peaks, the hosts can prepare a breakfast lunch box — very convenient. The only downside — sometimes you can hear neighbors talking in the next room, the walls aren’t very thick. But overall, Guest House Pid Dubom is an excellent choice for those who want to experience genuine Carpathian hospitality without unnecessary pretensions.
