Грибова Хата is a real gem in the mountain village of Verkhovyna, if you’re looking for an authentic Hutsul experience without excessive pompousness. I spent three nights here last September, and it was one of the best choices for exploring the Carpathians. This four-star hotel is located a bit on the outskirts of the village — you’ll need to walk about five minutes to the center, but that’s actually a plus because it’s quiet at night, and in the morning you wake up to birdsong rather than the rumble of cars.
The rooms are decorated in traditional style with wooden furniture and Hutsul motifs, but they have everything you need: decent WiFi (which in the mountains isn’t always a given), constant hot water, and the heating works excellently — in autumn it can get quite chilly in the mountains. The staff here is local, and they really know all the best hiking routes. They recommended the climb to Probiy waterfall, which turned out to be much more beautiful than I expected. Parking is free right at the hotel, which is convenient if you’re driving your own car — the road to Verkhovyna is quite winding but perfectly manageable.
The breakfasts here are homemade and hearty: Hutsul dishes, fresh bread, local cheese. Nothing fancy, but after a morning hike in the mountains — exactly what you need. The hotel owners are very friendly, always ready to help organize excursions or recommend where to have dinner. The only downside — in summer it can get quite crowded here, so it’s better to book in advance. The overall rating of 8.0 points is well deserved — this isn’t a luxury resort, but a cozy place for those who want to experience the real atmosphere of the Carpathians.
