You know what caught me off guard about Green Home? The name honestly doesn’t do it justice – I was expecting some budget eco-lodge, but this place is actually a really solid four-star spot right in the heart of Miercurea-Ciuc. When you’re walking down Strada Venczel József (which locals just call Venczel street), you’ll spot it pretty easily at number 21, and there’s decent parking right there which is honestly a godsend in this part of town.
The thing about Miercurea-Ciuc is that it’s not exactly on every tourist’s radar, but that’s kind of what makes Green Home special. It sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to the main square and all the good restaurants – there’s this fantastic traditional place called Casa Ardeleneasca just a few blocks away that the hotel staff actually recommended – but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos you’d get in bigger Romanian cities. The rooms are genuinely comfortable, and I mean that in the way that matters when you’ve been driving through the Carpathians all day. The beds are actually good quality, not just hotel-adequate, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure (trust me, this isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian towns).
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to know the area inside and out. When I mentioned wanting to visit the Balvanyos resort area, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a brochure – he actually drew out the best route on a napkin and told me which thermal baths were worth the trip versus which ones were tourist traps. That kind of local knowledge is gold when you’re exploring Harghita County. The breakfast spread was better than I expected too, with local specialties alongside the usual hotel fare, and they serve it until 10 AM which is perfect if you’re not an early riser. The whole place has this comfortable, lived-in feeling that makes you want to stick around longer than planned. With a 9.7 rating, I honestly thought it might be one of those places that looks perfect online but disappoints in person, but Green Home actually delivers on what it promises – just solid, unpretentious hospitality in a town that’s got more character than most people realize.
