Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Góralskie Domki on Gubałówka – I mean, mountain accommodations can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The location is kind of genius, really. You’re up on Gubałówka hill (yeah, the same one with the funicular), so you get those ridiculous Tatra views without dealing with the crowds that swarm the main Krupówki strip down in central Zakopane. The drive up is a bit winding, but there’s decent parking – which, if you’ve ever tried to park anywhere near the center of Zakopane during ski season, you’ll appreciate.
What really got me was how these cabins manage to feel both rustic and comfortable without going overboard on the whole “mountain chic” thing. The interiors have that solid wooden cabin vibe – you can actually smell the timber when you walk in – but they’ve got proper heating and modern bathrooms, thank goodness. I stayed in February, and while you could hear the wind picking up at night (comes with the territory up here), the place stayed surprisingly warm. The kitchen setup is pretty well thought out too, which matters if you’re planning to cook some of those amazing oscypek cheeses you’ll inevitably buy at the market. Actually, speaking of food – there’s a decent grocery store about ten minutes down the hill if you need supplies, though honestly, walking down to town for dinner isn’t bad either, especially if you take the path that cuts through the forest.
The thing that really sets this place apart though is the morning situation. You wake up and step outside your cabin, and there’s the entire Tatras range just… right there. No fighting for a good photo spot, no tour buses blocking your view. Just you, your coffee, and these massive peaks that change color as the sun comes up. It’s the kind of view that makes you understand why people get obsessed with mountain living. I mean, I’m not usually the type to wake up early on vacation, but I found myself getting up just to catch sunrise from the little deck area. The whole property sits at just the right angle where you’re facing south toward the main peaks – Giewont, Kasprowy Wierch, all the classics. During the day, you can actually watch the cable cars going up Kasprowy, which is sort of mesmerizing in a weird way. The only minor thing I’d mention is that it can get pretty quiet up here at night – which is perfect if you want to disconnect, but if you’re looking for nightlife, you’ll definitely want to head down the mountain.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
