The building itself has that weathered charm that three-star places in Romania do so well – it’s not trying to be fancy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the way they’ve maintained the character without letting it fall apart.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to actually experience Sibiu rather than just pass through it. You’re about a two-minute walk from the Large Square (Piața Mare), where all the tour groups congregate during the day, but here’s the thing – once evening hits and the day-trippers head back to their buses, you get to see what the old town is really like. The narrow streets around the hotel come alive with locals heading to dinner, and you’ll hear conversations in Romanian drifting from the small bars that tourists never seem to find. I stayed here in late September, and the morning fog rolling over those famous “eyes” on the rooftops was something you just can’t plan for – but being right in the thick of it made all the difference.

What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to actually know their city. The guy at reception (didn’t catch his name, but he had this great dry sense of humor) gave me directions to a little wine bar down a side street that I never would have discovered otherwise. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing revolutionary, but the beds are decent and the bathrooms work properly, which honestly isn’t always a given in these historic buildings. There’s some street noise if you’re a light sleeper, but it’s the good kind – church bells, not traffic. And here’s a practical tip: they have a small courtyard where you can sit with a coffee in the morning, which is actually pretty rare for hotels right in the old town center. The Wi-Fi works fine, parking is… well, you’re in a medieval city center, so you’ll be walking from wherever you leave your car, but that’s just how it is here. With a 9.4 rating, the Goldsmith clearly knows what it’s doing – it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but it nails the basics while putting you right where you want to be to explore one of Romania’s most beautiful cities.
