So I’ve stayed at Golden Time Hotel a few times now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to spot when I’m in Brașov. The location on Calea Bucuresti is actually pretty smart – you’re about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town (which, let’s be real, is where you want to be), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM. Plus, there’s this little bakery called Pâinea Noastră just two blocks down that does incredible cozonac if you’re into that sort of thing.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling upscale without being stuffy. The lobby has this warm, almost honey-colored lighting that makes you want to sink into one of those leather chairs with a book, and the staff… well, they actually remember your name after the first day, which is rarer than you’d think. The rooms are solid – not huge, but thoughtfully laid out with these little touches like USB ports right by the bed and blackout curtains that actually work (trust me on this one). The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, with decent water pressure, though the shower can take a minute to heat up in the mornings.
Here’s the thing though – and maybe this is why it’s got that 8.6 rating instead of being perfect – the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty on the upper floors, and if you’re staying during summer, you might hear some traffic noise from Calea Bucuresti since it’s one of the main arteries into the city. But honestly? I kind of like falling asleep to the distant hum of the city. The breakfast is where they really shine – none of that sad continental stuff you get at some places. They do a proper Romanian spread with local cheeses, fresh bread, and this incredible berry compote that I’m pretty sure they make in-house. The coffee’s good too, which… you know how hit-or-miss hotel coffee can be.
What I really appreciate is how the place feels connected to Brașov without trying too hard. The concierge (ask for Mihai if he’s there) actually knows the city inside and out – he’s the one who told me about the hiking trail up to Solomon’s Rocks that most tourists never find. And parking? Yeah, they’ve got a small lot behind the building, which is a godsend because street parking around there is basically a contact sport. The whole place just feels like it’s run by people who actually care about hospitality, not just checking boxes on some corporate checklist.
