Overview
You know what struck me first about Fortuna Eco? It’s tucked away on this quiet street – Kovacs Miklos – and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. But that’s actually part of its charm. This isn’t some flashy resort trying to dominate the landscape; it’s more like stumbling onto a well-kept secret in Băile Tuşnad.
The whole eco-boutique thing isn’t just marketing speak here – I mean, they really commit to it. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically Romanian without being kitschy about it. Inside, there’s this wonderful mix of reclaimed wood and modern touches that somehow doesn’t feel forced. The rooms are smaller than what you’d get at a chain hotel (it’s a 3-star after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed. Each one feels different – not cookie-cutter – and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I actually slept better here than at some 5-star places, if I’m being honest.
What really sets this place apart is how they handle the details. The staff genuinely knows the area – not just the tourist spots, but where locals go for dinner, which hiking trails are worth your time, and when the thermal baths are least crowded. They’re not just reciting a script; these people actually live here. The breakfast features local ingredients (the honey is incredible), and they’ll pack you something to take on day trips without making a big deal about it. Parking is straightforward – there’s a small lot behind the building, though you might need to do a bit of maneuvering if you’re driving something large. The location is perfectly positioned for exploring Băile Tuşnad’s thermal attractions, but it’s also quiet enough that you’re not dealing with street noise at night. That 9.2 rating makes sense once you experience how everything just… works. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that authenticity is refreshing in a world of over-promise, under-deliver hospitality.

Fantastic hotel with a cozy atmosphere, it's both modern but with a real rustic feeling. We stayed in the Van Gogh room which had lovely decor and design, comfy beds and balcony overlooking the forest. The restaurant served amazing food and even had vegetarian options for my partner, breakfast was equally good. We stayed in January and was treated to beautiful snow scenes (there's a pool table in reception and bowling alley just across the road for entertainment) but hopefully we'll get to come back in the summer for the local attractions!
1. Impeccable breakfast
2. Very nice and helpful staff
3. Beautiful atmosphere
We enjoyed our stay with two small children very much, very good room and food. Also we played billiard and chess there (included). Our little one found also toys to entertain herself. The Cristmas decorations were great. I felt highly welcomed in a cosy place.
Great location, very good food, great people, everything about the place is amazing.
I had the pleasure of staying at Fortuna Hotel, and I can honestly say that it was a good accomodation experience.
The apartment, which I booked a month ago for myself and my parents, was spacious, rustic theme decorated, with an walk in shower made out of natural stones with a glass-cubes wall; also many green plants that made it somehow homey and cosy-not many hotel rooms have plants. The hot water took a min. to reach second floor but that was understandable. The view was all around through multiple windows and the balcony. Entering the room I felt the air was very warm, I had the impulsive idea to turn down the heat but then it was just perfect with the time passing. The beds were comfortable, ergonomic foam pillow and matress, and the most important it was very quiet.
It was booked with breakfast and dinner and both meals had menus, 4 options for breakfast and 6 options for dinner. The restaurant is cosy decorated, we were served fast, food was tasty but none of the food was grilled or in the oven, everything is fried in oil. The staff was focused, attentive, genuinely friendly and at least 2 languages speakers.
As the central Thermal Baths were closed for renovations, a fact that we found out at the location, the hotel offered to prepare the outside hot tub for us and as well one of our dinner wine bottles was complementary- Thank you for the nice gesture.
Cozy room with lots of hearts and a nice balcony! Rich breakfast, safe parking, good location, many indoor activities.
This hotel is exceptional. Our room was fantastic - we loved the design! Another added bonus was the heated floor in the bathroom - didn't even know I needed that in my life. We got the half-board package with breakfast and dinner included and it didn't disappoint. We also got free access to Thermal Wellness and Spa for 3 hours and we loved it. Across the street from the hotel there's a Bowling Alley where you can also play darts, foosball and air hockey. We had so much fun!
Everything was amazing - the room, view, location, food, staff. I normally never sleep well in hotel rooms, but here I slept like a baby. The staff was so nice and kind, and the restaurant may not have a mile long menu, but everything we ordered was delicious. Will definitely come back again.
The design of the room, everything was made out of wood or stone, alot of plants
Breakfast was authentic, even with a little suprise-ripped plums
Very nice and cozy rooms, decorated with style. Very good breakfast. Excellent location and friendly host.
