For You Apartments Gold & Silver
You know what caught me off guard about For You Apartments Gold & Silver? The name makes it sound kind of fancy and impersonal, but honestly, this place feels more like staying at your Romanian friend’s really well-kept apartment than any typical hotel. I mean, when you’re walking down Strada Tribunei – which is basically this perfect cobblestone street that tourists somehow miss – you almost wonder if you’re in the right place until you spot the understated entrance.
The thing is, being right in Sibiu’s Old Town means you’re literally surrounded by those gorgeous pastel-colored buildings with their famous “eyes” (the dormer windows that look like they’re watching you), but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear groups of tourists chattering outside your window at 7 AM. I actually loved that about the location – you can stumble out in the morning and grab coffee at one of those tiny local spots on Strada Ocnei, or if you’re feeling more touristy, the main square is maybe a three-minute walk. The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious, which is refreshing because let’s be honest, most European city stays have you bumping into walls. The kitchenettes are actually functional too – not just for show – and I ended up cooking a few meals with stuff from the local market near Piața Cibin.
What really sold me though was how the staff clearly knows their stuff about Sibiu. When I mentioned wanting to see the old fortifications, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the obvious tourist spots – he told me about this section of the medieval walls you can walk along near Strada Cetății that most people completely miss. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get at chain hotels. The Wi-Fi actually works (shocking, I know), and the whole place has this clean, minimalist vibe without feeling sterile. Sure, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or fancy toiletries, but everything works properly and the beds are comfortable enough that I wasn’t counting sheep. The area gets pretty quiet after dark too, which is perfect if you’ve spent the day wandering around the Christmas market (if you’re there in winter) or exploring the Brukenthal Museum. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s one of those places that just gets the balance right between being in the heart of things without all the chaos that usually comes with it.
