Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “FLH – Central Apartments” on my booking confirmation, I wasn’t exactly expecting much. The name sounds pretty corporate, right? But you know what, sometimes the best places hide behind boring names, and this turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that make you feel like you’ve discovered something the guidebooks missed.
The location is actually ridiculous – and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally on Strada Pielarilor, which sounds fancy but is basically this narrow cobblestone street that puts you smack in the middle of Sibiu’s old town without the tourist trap feel. I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and grab coffee at one of those little cafes that locals actually use, not just the Instagram-worthy ones (though honestly, everything here is pretty photogenic). What really got me was how quiet it stays at night – you’d think being so central would mean dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around, but the old town has this weird acoustic thing where the sound just… doesn’t carry the same way modern streets do. The thick walls probably help too.
The apartments themselves have that lived-in quality that I actually prefer over sterile hotel rooms. Nothing’s brand new, but everything works, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels like an actual person’s home rather than a corporate box. The guy at check-in – super chill, spoke decent English, and actually gave me useful recommendations instead of just pointing to the tourist map. He told me about this little grocery store around the corner on Strada Filarmonicii that stays open later than the others, which honestly saved me when I needed wine at 9 PM on a Sunday. The Wi-Fi was solid (worked great for video calls, if that matters to you), and the kitchen had everything I needed to make breakfast instead of paying hotel prices.
Here’s the thing about Sibiu that makes this place work so well – it’s not Bucharest or Prague where you’re fighting crowds everywhere. You can actually wander around the old town in the early morning and have those postcard-perfect squares mostly to yourself. From the apartment, it’s maybe a three-minute walk to the main square, five minutes to the bridge of lies (which is smaller than you’d expect but still worth seeing), and if you’re into that sort of thing, the Brukenthal Museum is right there. Parking can be tricky if you’re driving – the old town streets weren’t exactly designed for cars – but there’s a public lot about ten minutes away that’s not too expensive.
The 8.2 rating makes sense to me. It’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re spending most of your time exploring and just need a comfortable, well-located base. I’d definitely stay here again, especially because the price point is so reasonable for what you get. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that don’t try too hard to impress you – they just quietly deliver what you actually need.
