The rooms have this cozy mountain lodge vibe without being kitschy about it, and – this is important if you’re planning to work or stay connected – the WiFi actually works properly, which isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian villages. What really got me though was how quiet it is at night. You know how some places claim to be peaceful but then you hear every car that passes? Well, there’s barely any traffic on this stretch of Strada Principala after sunset, so you actually get that mountain silence people talk about but rarely experience.
The location is honestly perfect if you’re exploring the Buzău Mountains or heading toward the Carpathian hiking trails. Vama Buzăului itself is sort of a gateway spot – you’ve got the main DN10 road easily accessible, but you’re tucked away enough that it feels like you’ve escaped civilization.
