The rooms have this cozy mountain lodge vibe without being kitschy about it, and – this is important if you’re planning to work or stay connected – the WiFi actually works properly, which isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian villages. What really got me though was how quiet it is at night. You know how some places claim to be peaceful but then you hear every car that passes? Well, there’s barely any traffic on this stretch of Strada Principala after sunset, so you actually get that mountain silence people talk about but rarely experience.

The location is honestly perfect if you’re exploring the Buzău Mountains or heading toward the Carpathian hiking trails. Vama Buzăului itself is sort of a gateway spot – you’ve got the main DN10 road easily accessible, but you’re tucked away enough that it feels like you’ve escaped civilization. I noticed a lot of guests were using it as a base for day trips to Brașov (about an hour’s drive) or for accessing the less touristy mountain paths that locals actually use. The host gave me some solid recommendations for hiking routes that I definitely wouldn’t have found on my own, which saved me from doing the same overcrowded trails everyone else hits. Parking is right there on the property, which might sound basic but trust me, after spending time in Romanian mountain towns where you’re circling blocks looking for a spot, you’ll appreciate having your car sorted. The breakfast spread was better than expected too – not just the usual continental stuff, but some local touches that made it feel authentic rather than generic. Actually, the whole experience had that perfect balance of being well-run and professional while still feeling personal and locally connected.
