Elina apartament
You know what caught me off guard about Elina apartament? I was expecting just another generic rental in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, but this place actually feels like someone’s home – which, honestly, is exactly what you want when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. It’s tucked away on Strada Călărași in this residential block that’s surprisingly quiet for being so close to everything. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from the old fortress ruins and the Danube promenade, but once you’re inside, you’d never know there’s a city buzzing around you.
The apartment itself sits on the second floor of this typical Romanian bloc – don’t let that put you off though, because the inside is nothing like what you’d expect from the communist-era exterior. The owner (I think her name is actually Elina) has put real thought into making this space work for travelers. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook – and trust me, you’ll want to after you hit the local market and see those fresh vegetables and cheeses. There’s this little balcony that overlooks the courtyard where you can have your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood come alive. The WiFi is solid, which matters if you’re working remotely, and the heating works properly in winter (not always a given in this part of Romania, to be honest).
What really sold me on this place was the location combined with that 9.5 rating – I’m usually skeptical of ratings that high, but it’s deserved. You’re about a ten-minute walk from the main pedestrian area where all the cafes and restaurants are, and maybe fifteen minutes to the train station if you’re planning day trips. The Danube is right there, which is gorgeous in the evening when the light hits the water just right. Parking isn’t a nightmare like it can be in the old town center, and the building entrance is well-lit and secure. The check-in was smooth – no awkward key exchanges or confusing instructions. Sometimes these apartment rentals can feel impersonal, but this one strikes that perfect balance between having your own space and feeling like someone actually cares about your stay. For the price point in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, you’re getting way more value than you would at the generic hotels near the center, plus you get to live like a local for a few days instead of being stuck in tourist land.
