You know, I’ve stayed at my fair share of mountain hotels in Romania, but DRUMUL DOMNISORILOR c on Strada Amurgului really caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best possible way. The name’s a bit of a mouthful (it means “The Lords’ Road” if you’re curious), but honestly, once you’re there, you’ll just call it home for however long you’re staying. The location is actually perfect if you know Buşteni at all – Strada Amurgului is this quiet residential street that’s close enough to the main drag that you can walk to restaurants and the cable car station, but far enough removed that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds stumbling past your window at midnight.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling fancy and actually being comfortable. I mean, sure, it’s got the four-star rating and all that, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or like you need to whisper in the hallways. The rooms have this lived-in elegance – if that makes sense – where everything’s clearly well-maintained and thoughtfully designed, but you can actually relax without worrying about messing something up. The beds are properly comfortable (not those rock-hard mattresses some Romanian hotels seem to love), and the windows actually open wide enough to let in that crisp mountain air. Speaking of which, if you’re there in summer, you’ll want to keep them open at night – the temperature drops beautifully, and you can hear the forest settling in for the evening.
The staff here actually seem to care about what they’re doing, which honestly isn’t something you can take for granted everywhere. They know the hiking trails around Omu Peak and Caraiman, they’ll tell you when the weather’s about to turn (crucial if you’re planning any serious mountain time), and they don’t act like you’re bothering them when you ask for restaurant recommendations. Parking’s straightforward too – none of that circling-the-block nonsense you get in some mountain towns. The whole setup just works, you know? It’s the kind of place where you can base yourself for a few days of serious Carpathian exploration without feeling like you’re roughing it, but also without that sanitized resort feeling that can make everywhere feel the same. If you’re planning to hit the Bucegi Mountains properly, this is honestly where I’d stay again.
