The thing about staying in Kościelisko is that you’re perfectly positioned between all the action without being stuck in the middle of tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from some of the best hiking trails that lead into the Tatras, but you can also easily hop over to Zakopane when you want that buzzy mountain town vibe – though honestly, after a day there, you’ll appreciate coming back to the peace and quiet of Czajki street. The hosts here actually know their stuff about the area too, which makes such a difference. They’ll tell you which trails to hit early before the crowds arrive, or where to grab the best oscypek without paying tourist prices.
What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between authentic mountain charm and actual comfort. The rooms have this cozy, cabin-like feel without being kitschy about it, and – this is huge – the beds are actually comfortable, not those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in mountain lodges. Plus, parking is right there (trust me, this matters when you’re hauling hiking gear), and the whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. I stayed here during shoulder season in late spring, and it was perfect – quiet enough to really unwind, but with everything open and accessible. The morning light hitting the mountains from the windows is something else entirely, especially with a cup of coffee in hand.
