You know what struck me first about Dom u Kromki? The name literally translates to “House at Kromka” – and honestly, that casual, homey vibe carries through everything about this place. I mean, when you’re staying somewhere that feels more like your Polish grandmother’s mountain retreat than a typical rental, you know you’ve found something special. The fireplace isn’t just for show either – during my October visit, it actually made those chilly Sudeten evenings feel perfectly cozy.
The location in Marczyce is one of those spots that locals know but doesn’t get overrun with tour buses. You’re basically tucked into this quiet village where the biggest decision of the day is whether to hike toward Śnieżka (which, by the way, you can see right from the windows on clear mornings) or just sit on the terrace with coffee and watch the fog roll through the valleys. The address might look a bit confusing with that mix of Polish and what appears to be Cyrillic, but don’t overthink it – you’re in the heart of the Sudetes, close enough to the Czech border that you’ll probably hear multiple languages during your stay. Parking was never an issue, which honestly surprised me given how narrow some of these mountain village roads can be.
What really sets this place apart is how the owners have managed to keep that authentic mountain house feeling while actually making it comfortable for modern travelers. The fireplace becomes the natural gathering spot once the sun goes down, and there’s something about the way the light hits those mountain views that makes you want to linger over dinner way longer than usual. I stayed during shoulder season and barely saw another tourist, which meant I got to experience that rare thing – a mountain retreat that feels genuinely peaceful rather than Instagram-busy. The 9.3 rating makes perfect sense when you realize this isn’t trying to be a fancy hotel; it’s just really, really good at being exactly what it is. If you’re the type who appreciates waking up to actual mountain silence (well, except for the occasional cow bell from nearby pastures), this is your spot.
