It’s tucked right into Nicolae Balcescu Street – which honestly sounds more intimidating than it actually is – but the moment you step inside, it feels like you’ve found this perfectly kept secret in Sibiu’s old town. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from the Grand Square and all those iconic medieval buildings, but somehow this place manages to feel calm and residential rather than touristy.

The building itself has that authentic Romanian charm without trying too hard, if that makes sense. It’s officially a 3-star place, but honestly, it punches way above its weight – which probably explains that crazy 9.5 rating. The rooms have this lived-in elegance, like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place who actually has good taste. I particularly loved the way they’ve kept some of the original architectural details (the doorways, the ceiling work) while making everything feel modern enough that you’re not roughing it. The beds are genuinely comfortable too, which… well, you never know with these historic buildings sometimes.

What really sold me on the place was the location – you can walk to Huet Square in about three minutes, and the Brukenthal Museum is practically around the corner. But here’s the thing locals know: Nicolae Balcescu is just off the main tourist drag, so you get all the convenience without the constant stream of tour groups walking past your window. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of the old town (it always is), but the staff actually knows the area well enough to give you real advice, not just vague directions. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond Sibiu – maybe day trips to the surrounding villages or hiking in the nearby hills – you’re positioned perfectly without having to navigate through all the pedestrian zones every time you want to get your car. It’s one of those places where you start to feel like you’re living in Sibiu rather than just visiting it, which honestly is exactly what you want when you’re staying somewhere with this much history literally built into the walls.
