Daria Suite
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Daria Suite on Bulevardul Ecaterina Teodoroiu, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not trying too hard, and this little gem in Târgu Jiu really surprised me.
The thing about this hotel is that it actually feels like someone who cares runs it. I mean, you can tell the difference immediately – from the moment you walk in, there’s this attention to detail that you don’t usually get at this price point. The suites (and they really are suites, not just rooms with a fancy name) are spacious in a way that makes you wonder how they manage it. The beds are properly comfortable – not those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in smaller Romanian hotels – and honestly, I slept better here than at some places twice the price. The bathrooms are modern too, with decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled around Romania much, you know that’s not always a given.
What really won me over though was the location. Bulevardul Ecaterina Teodoroiu might sound intimidating if you don’t speak Romanian, but it’s actually perfectly positioned. You’re close enough to the center that you can easily walk to see Brâncuși’s sculptures – which, let’s face it, is probably why you’re in Târgu Jiu in the first place – but far enough out that you’re not dealing with whatever passes for traffic chaos in this town. There’s decent parking too, which is a relief because trying to figure out Romanian parking rules can be… well, it’s an adventure I’d rather skip. The staff speaks English well enough to help you navigate the local area, and they actually seem to know the town rather than just reciting tourist brochures. I got some genuinely useful tips about when to visit the sculptures (early morning, by the way – fewer tour groups and better light) and where to grab a proper meal that won’t break the bank.
The 9.3 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s one of those places that consistently delivers on what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. Sure, it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful and clean and comfortable in all the ways that actually matter when you’re traveling. The rooms stay quiet at night, the Wi-Fi works properly, and the breakfast (when I had it) was simple but fresh – local stuff, not just processed hotel food. I’d definitely stay here again if I found myself back in Târgu Jiu, which honestly, I might, because this part of Romania deserves more attention than it gets.
