You know what struck me first about Curtea Brasoveana? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street – Bailor – that most tourists probably walk right past without noticing. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the main Council Square madness, but somehow it feels like you’ve stepped into this peaceful bubble where you can actually hear yourself think.

The building itself has this authentic Romanian charm that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. Walking through the entrance, there’s this warm wooden smell mixed with something that reminds me of my grandmother’s house – not in a musty way, more like… well-cared-for old things, if that makes sense. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which honestly surprised me because most places this nice tend to feel a bit impersonal. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM because they seem to be doing room prep right up until then.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to keep the historical feel without making you suffer for it – the WiFi actually works everywhere (tested it obsessively), the shower pressure is fantastic, and the beds are properly comfortable. The rooms facing the street are surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the heart of Brașov, though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe mention that when booking. I stayed there during tourist season in July and never had trouble sleeping. The breakfast spread is solid – not fancy, but they’ve got local cheeses and meats that you won’t find at the chain hotels, plus the coffee is actually strong enough to wake you up.

Here’s something I wish I’d known before: there’s limited parking right at the hotel, but there’s a public lot about two blocks away that’s way cheaper than what most hotels charge. Also, the front desk guy (I think his name was Andrei?) knows absolutely everything about hiking trails around Brașov – got me onto this amazing route up to Tampa that I never would have found otherwise. The location is honestly perfect for exploring the old town on foot, and when you need a break from the crowds, you can duck back to your room in minutes. That 9.4 rating isn’t just hotels.com algorithm nonsense – this place genuinely gets the details right.
