Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Cubrynka on Paryskich Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little gem sits just a few minutes’ walk from Zakopane’s main drag (Krupówki Street, if you’re mapping it out), but it’s tucked away enough that you actually get some peace and quiet. And trust me, in Zakopane during ski season or summer hiking months, quiet is worth its weight in gold.

The thing about Cubrynka is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. The rooms are clean and comfortable – I mean genuinely comfortable, not just “hotel comfortable” where you’re counting down until checkout. The owners clearly know their guests are here for the Tatras, not to lounge around the hotel all day, so everything’s designed with that mountain practicality in mind. There’s proper space to dump your muddy hiking boots (and believe me, they will be muddy), decent Wi-Fi for uploading those summit photos, and honestly, the breakfast hits the spot before you head out for a day on the trails. The staff actually knows the area too – they’ll point you toward the less crowded routes up to Morskie Oko or tell you which funicular to skip when the tourist crowds are insane.

What really sold me on this place, though, is how it feels authentically Zakopane without all the tourist trap nonsense. You’re close enough to walk to the wooden churches and browse the highland crafts on Krupówki, but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos right outside your window. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you’ll see actual locals going about their day, not just tour groups shuffling between attractions. Parking can be a bit tight during peak season – fair warning – but it’s manageable if you’re not driving some massive SUV. The 9-star rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places that just works without any drama or unpleasant surprises. Perfect for when you want a solid base camp for exploring the mountains without breaking the bank or dealing with overly fussy hotel policies.
