Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Csencsó Vendégház in Ciumani – it’s tucked away in this quiet corner of Harghita County where you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking for it. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t shout about themselves from the main road. The guesthouse sits in this really peaceful spot where you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which is pretty rare these days.

What struck me right away was how the owners – and I mean this in the best way – actually seem to care about the place. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star spot, nothing fancy but everything works properly. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), the heating kicks in when it should, and there’s this attention to small details that you notice after staying in too many cookie-cutter hotels. Like, they actually have decent hangers in the closets, and the shower pressure is surprisingly good for a smaller place. The breakfast area has this homey feel where you end up chatting with other guests – mostly hikers and people exploring the Székely region, from what I could tell.

The location is honestly perfect if you’re planning to explore the area around Odorheiu Secuiesc or head into the mountains. It’s far enough from the busier tourist spots that you get some peace and quiet, but close enough that you’re not driving forever to get anywhere interesting. Parking is easy – just pull up right there, no stress about finding a spot or paying extra fees. The owners speak decent English if your Romanian is rusty, and they’re the type who’ll actually give you useful directions to local spots rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist traps. I mean, the 9.8 rating kind of speaks for itself, but after staying there I get why people rate it so highly. It’s one of those places where everything just works the way it should, without any drama or surprises on your bill when you check out.
